How Can Anyone Claim That Breastfeeding In Public Is Sexual?

I witnessed my FIL’s wife breastfeeding my new baby sis in law, and it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Then I started to think about how I always read online about how people think it’s disgusting or sexual, and I don’t get where that thought even comes from.

What Is Proper Etiquette For Breastfeeding In Public?

My husband and I are trying to conceive, and when I do have a baby I plan on breastfeeding. But I’m curious as to where women can breastfeed. I mean babies need to eat alot, and if I have to take the baby out somewhere I’ll need to feed him/her and I may not be in a place that has privacy. So if I cover myself up can I breastfeed in public? Are there laws to protect breastfeeding mothers?

Yesterday I was in Walmart and saw a woman with her infant daughter sitting on a bench breastfeeding. Her entire blouse pulled down. I quickly looked away to be respectful, but thought that she should have at LEAST covered her other breast (the one she wasn’t feeding the baby with).
I believe that breastfeeding is a great thing,and breastfeeding in public is fine as long as you show a LITTLE decency.

What Should I Do About Breastfeeding In Public?

Should I do something about this? I went to the pool at my moms apartment and the lady who checks in the guests TOLD ME I COULDN’T BREASTFEED my 3 week old baby IN PUBLIC. She said I had to go to my car. I decided not to make a big deal about it so I went into the bathroom but I felt so offended by the way she came at me. That is like saying I can’t eat in public, I have to go eat on the toilet! Should I say something to the owners or should I write a letter? I feel violated by what she said, like I was doing a bad thing by breastfeeding my baby. I even had a towel to cover her up. Do you have any suggestions or opinions on what I should do?

Apparently there are still people still confuse a baby’s right to eat with a woman’s right to expose her breasts. Some people still confuse the lactating breast with a sexual organ. Maybe I have no right to tell them they are mistaken.

I think it’s great as long as the mom covers up and doesn’t show her nipples.
There was this lady at my grandma’s house that finished breastfeeding her son, but still didn’t cover up and I was like ew.

What States Is Public Breastfeeding Not Yet Protected In?

I know in Utah, the state code states that public breasfeeding, and showing he breast incidental to breastfeeding cannot be conisdered a lewd act. This makes breastfeeding protected in Utah.
What states are not yet as progressive as Utah as far as breastfeeding?
