Anybody Out There Who Had A Positive Breastfeeding Experience?

January 23, 2010 by

I hear all these horror stories about breastfeeding not going well, there being no milk or the baby refusing to latch all the negatives. I was just wondering has anybody here enjoyed a long and wonderful breastfeeding experience? How many of you breastfed past 6 months? Was it as bonding as you anticipated?

At What Age Are The Benefits Of Breastfeeding No Longer Greater Than Regular Food?

January 22, 2010 by

I know the goal is 12 months, and I know WHO recommends breastfeeding to 24 months.
I know breastfeeding is a great way to pass on all of the vitamins and nutrition the baby needs to develop their immune system. So at what age can a child develop and maintain it on their own, so that they no longer need the nutrients of breast milk?

How Do I Switch My Baby From The Bottle To Breastfeeding?

January 21, 2010 by

It’s difficult for me to get her on to breastfeeding because she’s already used to the bottle. I had to put her on the bottle right when she was born because i had a C-section operation and it was really hard to get her to breastfeed. And the nurses at the hospital didn’t show me much on how to breastfeed too.

Why Are Some Pediatricians So Clueless When It Comes To Breastfeeding?

January 20, 2010 by

My baby’s doctor is actually very supportive of breastfeeding, but I hear horrible, and sometimes ridiculous things from other moms. Like my cousin whose doctor told her that her milk wouldn’t be any good for the baby after four months. So she stopped nursing all her kids at four months old. And my friend, who says after a year the milk turns to water, and it’s not healthy or appropriate for the baby to be breastfed past a year, and it might jeopardize her health, physically and emotionally. And of course if a woman breastfeeds past a year, and in my cousin’s case past 4months, her teeth will fall out, and her bones will become brittle.
How come their information is so wrong? Have you had such experiences?

What Foods To Avoid While Breastfeeding?

January 18, 2010 by

I am wondering what foods you are supposed to avoid while beastfeeding. I have heard several different things, so I am really wanting to hear personal experiences with it, not just something you’ve read somewhere.
For example, I’ve heard to avoid chocolate. Other people said chocolate won’t hurt. I ate chocolate cake last night, and my baby was fussy all day. Has anyone else figured out things that they couldn’t eat while breastfeeding?

When Did You Choose To Wean Your Child From Breastfeeding And Why?

January 17, 2010 by

I just have this feeling, maybe my maternal instinct, that my daughter and I are done breastfeeding. She is 9 months old. She is so much more happy and content after a bottle, and I’ve got to admit that I’m getting tired of it (breastfeeding). I don’t love my daughter any less, I just feel like this is over. Is it bad to feel this way? Did anybody else stop because they wanted to and not because they had to?

Can You Overdose Your Baby With Iron Fortified Formula?

January 14, 2010 by

I know you are supposed to follow directions carefully with vitamins because of iron, so is it the same with baby formula?
My cousin had her baby one week before I had mine (2 months ago). I just found out that in order to get him to sleep better, she gives him one scoop to every ounce of water she uses (when the directions say one scoop to every two ounces of water).
Could that harm the baby in any way?

How Long Could An Adult And Infant Survive On Baby Formula, If Necessary? (in A Doomsday Type Scenario)?

January 12, 2010 by

My baby girl just turned one year old and I realized I have a bunch of cans of formula left over. Last night, as I was re-packing our “emergency readiness kit” I was wondering if, in a emergency situation, the formula would technically be sufficient to keep an adult and toddler alive and well for several weeks if necessary. Provided I had enough water supply to mix with the powdered formula, how long could it keep us alive and well, assuming we were in a doomsday scenario – hunkered down in my basement? Thanks!

Can You Mix Cold Boiled Water With Hot Boiled Water To Make Luke Warm Water To Add Baby Powder Formula?

January 4, 2010 by

In order to prepare fresh baby formula I store boiled water in individual bottles in the fridge so I have it on hand. Instead of warming the cold water in a bottle warmer or under hot running water I add hot boiled water instead to get it luke warm so I can then add the baby formula powder. I was wondering if this is safe as I have not been able to find this method of preparing formula on any websites.
