A runny nose doesn’t turn into a cold. You either have a runny nose because you already have a cold (or some other illness), or allergies which don’t turn into colds.
Personally, if it were allergy-related, I might take an antihistamine. But, for a cold or other illness, I’d just wait for it to run its course, regardless of whether or not I’m breastfeeding or pregnant.
Kellymom is a good breastfeeding resource. Here’s what she says about cold and allergy remedies.

My pharmacist recommended a neti pot when I was fighting a cold and breastfeeding. Its a simple saline solution – they now sell them at most pharmacies. If your runny nose is from allergies or a bacterial infection, it can really help. Another trick I learned from a new mom client was a SMALL spoonful of wasabi – that green hot stuff that comes with sushi. It burns, but boy can it open your sinuses.

if u have allergies, then i don’t think u need to take anything. but if its a cold, then i would use a saline nasal spray. u spray it 3 times on each nostril then blow ur nose and it just clears up everything. my nose went from feeling all congested and clogged up to runny free nose.. good luck!
