I was told by everyone to go out and get the ‘What to expect when expecting’ book, so I did…. It was SO boring, so I just got rid of it.
There is this writer Kaz Cooke and she has a book called “Up the Duff”, that is pretty good, written by a woman for women, she is really honest, and gives ‘normal’ advice rather than some rubbish that you know you won’t follow anyway. It is funny too, so you won’t get bored or fed overly medical information like the expecting book.
That of course is just my opinion! I have found that it is best not to take any of these books too seriously, but if you are like me, and like to ‘feel’ informed, then I found “Up the Duff” the best.

It is a good resource, but I wouldn’t take everything in it to heart. Some of the things i read in there freaked me out as a expectant mommy. To be honest I read “What to Expect” 3 times before even getting pregnant. After giving birth I put away all of my child care books. Because all I was doing was worrying… is my child on track. I read the books and then put them aside and learned to trust my instinct.
some of the books I read:
The Baby Book by Dr. Sears – Focuses on Attatchment Parenting, not letting your kid cry
On Becoming Baby Wise by Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam- this is the cry it out to get to sleep book…definitely not for everyone
Honestly, all the books out there differ and sometimes conflict in the info they give. Read what you want, but trust yourself to know what is right for your child. Good Luck!

ALL of them!!
Almost ALL of them are trying to sell you on their way of parenting. The truth is each child and every parent is different. What works for one child may not work for your second child.
(‘What to expect the first year’ isn’t any better!)
Use the internet instead. Take a bit from each source and mix it up and make it work for you.

i don’t remember the crappy books but i do know i considered dr. spock’s book the bible of baby care.
after the first two or three kids though,baby books are what you read for a good laugh.

I hated that book with a passion! I honestly just go on the internet to get advice, my favorite site is http://www.askdrsears.com/
that way I don’t waste money or paper on worthless reading!
