What Are The Best Bottles To Use So That A Baby Will Not Ween Themselves Off Of Breastfeeding?

I am registering for my first baby shower and trying to figure out what the best bottle / nipple is to use. I want to breast feed but realize that I will have to breast pump sometimes. I have been told that babies will ween themselves off of breastfeeding because they like the bottle better because they get fed faster. Any ideas on what bottle would be best?

The NUK bottles are actually the best to prevent nipple confusion, their nipple has a curved shape to them (which is how a real nipple curves in to the mouth palate when baby is drinking from the breast)
You can buy the NUK brand from most chemists as well as Target I think.http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51…
Personally however, I use Avent and haven’t had a problem with nipple confusion either.
    Good Luck =]

I would recommend getting the ‘wide’ nipple bottles. Alot more women who BF and have to pump have gone to them too. I strongly urge you to NOT give a bottle till baby is at least 2-3 mos old (which is when we usually go back to work/school anyway). By then they are well established nursers, so is your milk supply and they will prefer mommy (and her warmth, nearness, comfort etc) over the bottle.
I had a rough time with the last one tho when I went back to work. She was almost 3 mos, and it took her nearly 2 wks before she would take a bottle at all for the daycare. I actually had to come pick her up several times b/c she would refuse to eat. Also she would refuse to have a bottle at home with me or even if I was in the room! I had to have my family bottle train her with pumped milk at home before we had any real success.
That said, my first 2 had no problem taking a bottle at daycare after they were a couple mos old and didnt refuse to eat like my youngest. (she is still a very shy, timid, little happy clam). The infant room at my baby’s daycare was very understanding tho, they said its a pretty common problem and gave me suggestions on how to help get her bottle trained at home (like try leaving the room so

If you introduce the bottle to the baby well after he/she is comfortable breastfeeding then you should have no problems with nipple confusion. The ideal time is between 4 and 6 weeks. If you wait too long, you risk him/her not wanting the bottle. My baby had no problems using medela bottles (convenient since they come with the pump); evenflo bottles (fits the pump in style) and the playtex nursers (fit the milk storage bags).

well they suggest you don’t introduce a bottle until bfing is well established to minimize that..and obviously, dont over use the bottle….i would say to look at bottles that are similarly shaped to your nipple; my dd was pickier when she was young about the nips; now she doesnt care, she will drink from a narrow ventaire and a huge drop in nip without hesitation…..as long as she knows there is milk to be had, she’s on it, LOL

Adiri is a great bottle and resembles the breast almost perfectly, however you have to be careful when you pour the milk in cause it can be tricky. YOu get the hang of it though, and then they are okay.

my son wouldnt’ take anything but those weird “nipple” looking nipples.. but any bottle is ok. just depends on how often you’re going to bottle feed him.. stick with the slow flow nipples that way he will have to work really hard for the milk and not get lazy

I’ve had good luck with the playtex nursers. My son hasn’t had any nipple confusion and I love how easy clean up is with the drop ins.

Avent and Playtex drop ins are mostly used when breastfeed since they are lot closer to like the mother breast. My son loved avent and playtex drop in when I was breastfeeding him.

+1 on the slow flow nipple. That is the main thing to look for:

Good point, “My Soldier is a daddy, too.”
“stick with the slow flow nipples that way he will have to work really hard for the milk and not get lazy”

If the nipple flows quickly, he will prefer it to breastfeeding because it is easier to get the milk out.
