What Are Some Of The Disadvantages Of Breastfeeding?

I’m pregnant and considering breastfeeding, but want to make sure I make the right decision. I’ve found plenty great reasons to breast feed but hardly any reasons not. Please be honest about what you think.

Norm there is no problem in public as long as you have a jacket or a blanket. The only problem is for me that nobody else can feed the baby. (well unless you skip one breastmeal and give a bottle)Can also be difficult when you have to work or you need to take medication. otherwise here are no problems. My baby daughter had a meal in the Shamu stadium in Seaworld under a jacket , no problems.

any thing you take in your body will go to the baby so you have to be carefull of food, drink medicines. I breast fed and I would not go any other way

Congratulations on considering giving your baby the best start by breastfeeding. There are SO many benefits to breastfeeding that any inconvenience you may encounter will be small in comparison with all the benefits.
I would suggest that you get connected with a local La Leche League chapter now – even before you give birth. There are many things you should know before the birth that will help you and your child with breastfeeding.
These are mothers who are trained about the FACTS of breastfeeding. There is a lot of misinformation out there and as you know, the internet is a great place to get it.
Here is a link that will help you find a La Leche League chapter wherever you are in the world: http://www.lalecheleague.org/WebIndex.ht…
    Enjoy motherhood!

The main drawback is it can be inconvenient when out in public.
The drawbacks are far outweighed by the benefits.

if you’re doing drugs or drink any alcohol it would slips through your milk

I don’t know of any drawbacks to breast feeding except that you have to continue to stay away from alcohol while bfing or at least only feed baby milk that you pumped prior until the alcoghol is out of your system.
As for breastfeeding in public, as long as you have a button up or nursing shirt and a nursing bra on its easy to do and a receiving blanket will preserve your modesty. I’ve breastfed all 3 of my kids and plan on doing it with #4 too, I’ve breastfed at the beach, in restaurants, at the park and at the mall and never had anyone comment on it or had any problems with it. Its also a good way to lose wieght after birth! I totally recommend it!

i heard that the bad part of breastfeeding is, one u still should not drink or smoke, you have to have the three main meals a day and pretty much keep ur pregnancy diet going, it can hurt after a while sting and be really tender, plus also if u are out in public or you are not with the child. going bak to work ect

A disadvantage of breastfeeding is that no matter what you take (as in medicine), your baby will be taking also so you must always check. Some medicines are bad, some are harmless, but always always check before hand. You also have to watch what you eat because certain foods may make your baby irritable (like spicy things).
Sore nipples will can go to your disadvantage list, but it is temporary. Once your nipples get used to breastfeeding, it’s fine. At least it is for me. I never experienced the chapped nipples and other nipple discomfort some women talk about.
If you choose to breastfeed, your baby will typically want to feed more often than a formula fed baby. Breastmilk is easier to digest, that’s why. So be prepared to breastfeed every couple of hours. This is inconvenient, but very very beneficial for your baby…so please consider breastfeeding.
Aside from these, pretty much everything is an advantage. Everything about breastfeeding is a plus for your baby, no negatives at all. Any negatives/disadvantages you think of is with the mom. So please, please, breastfeed if you are able to! Good luck!

Your nipples will be sore for a short time. There is some leaking sometimes (there are breast pads for that). Some people (me for example) have a hard time pumping their breasts. If you are going to, I would try to get an electric breast pump. It is easier than you think to discreetly breastfeed in public. Overall, it is such a wonderful bonding experience.

if you’re considering on diet pills or on medications you’ll pass it to the baby as well.once you’re breast feeding (bf) you’ll have to do that all the way as the milk will get full and you’ll feel some pain which means that you’ll have to bf or express it out constantly. for some this may be inconvenient. however based on my experience, the 1st time was rather painful and i even had cracked nipples but its all worth it. being a 1st time mom its difficult but after awhile you’ll enjoy bf as i did it’ll give you a sense of calmness which is much needed.

Breastfeeding in Public is completely legal and nobody can give you trouble for it. If you do not want to do that, you can always pump and bottle feed your baby the breastmilk in public or when you want to drink. If you plan on drinking just pump enough milk for 72 hours worth to feed the baby, then you can drink. For 72 hours, feed your baby the pumped milk, and pump your milk into the sink because it’s no good.
The best thing to do is talk to your doctor.
