what about the book, The Womanly Art of BreastFeeding.
i recieved this gift for my baby shower.
    what a life saver!

  2. Charlee's Mama says:

A boppy pillow with a cover ($35) is a great gift. Breast milk storage bags are also great.

I came across this site earlier. Products are all natural, and are reasonably priced. She might like this.
They have products that aid in breastfeeding, for babies, and also postpartum recovery. Hope you like it.

i cannot live without my boppy it got to the point were we got so used to using it that if we don’t have it neither one of us could get comfortable while feeding i eventually bought a second to leave at the inlaws house.

Those things are so incredibly personal — 95% of breastfeeding ‘accessories’ strike me as junk, but the other 5% are vital. I am sure nobody agrees with me as to the specifics in those percentages, though…
A gift certificate to somewhere online that has good nursing bras and a good selection of said ‘accessories’ would be a really nice thing to get. In some cases, I think a gift certificate is MORE thoughtful, not less.
The Boppy I was given collects dust, I couldn’t be bothered with a nursing gown, and I find “Hooter Hider”-type cover-ups offensive. I used the Lansinoh somebody gave me on my dry feet…

I didn’t care too much for the boppy until baby was a little bigger. But I loved it while I was still pregnant.
-One of these nursing shirts (maybe just a plain tank top one but there are tons of styles, )from glamourmom.com they are ammmaaaazzziiinnngg, amazing. lol
they are about 35 dollars each but so worth it.
-a gift certificate for a massage.
-a mei tai baby carrier (might be a little more expensive) or a sling that you may be able to find under $50 – attachedtobaby.com… the ring slings are good for tiny babies and very convenient – great for nursing- but the mei tai is good for all the different ways to carry baby in, nursing, especially when out and about, carrying on back while baby naps so you can do stuff around the house, computer, or just want complete freedom with your arms while knowing that baby is safe on your body (also helps with colich since beby is in an upright position)
-a little gift basket including these things: organic or natural brand of mothers milk tea, rasberry leaf tea (promotes health of the healing womb and tastes yummy) some dark beer like guinness (too bitter for me) or better yet a good oatmeal stout or two…the dark beer promotes healthy milk, is relaxing for mom and safe for baby and can really bring in that milk! i was so happy when my midwife reccomended i drink a guennes the day after i had my baby! also throw in some nice natural care products or candles.
-you can make her a little package of foods ready-to-eat and for inbetween meals. things high in protein and iron and dark greens. trader joes, whole foods, etc… those places have those. since getting meals ready every time you’re hungry and nursing can be hard to do.
-mostly i’d reccomend somethign that will make her feel cared for and special because all the focus now is on the baby and it can be hard to find time for yourself. make sure she knows that’s still important and that you support her in that. :)
(edit: if she’s having trouble with breastfeeding you can do these things for her locate a la leche league meeting group and get her a printout of the dates and location of the meetings. a birth circle and mothers circle, one that has lots of focus on breastfeeding, the homebirth ones were the most well informed resourceful and supportive mothers out of all the ones i went to…. if she’s experiencing pain, that’s the biggest sign she and baby just aren’t doing it right yet and needs to get down to a lactation consultant – the ones at la leche are free- or to a mothers circle as soon as possible :) :) she will not thank you enough for that, too)

You have gotten lots of ideas but my favorite items for breastfeeding were:
The Boppy Pillow with Slipcover (I had two)
    Breastmilk Storage Bags from Lansinoh
    Reusable breast pads
    Nursing bras

  8. twin+2 mom says:

The My Brest Friend nursing pillow is far better than the Boppy for breastfeeding. I used it with my first 2 kids (have twins now, so I needed a bigger pillow!) & nursed them for 1 year. You’re sweet to think of her!

  9. Anonymous says:

bra….wal-mart has them for less than $10….nursing bra that is
a pillow….boppy or my breast friend
storage stuff like milk bags, glass bottles
    a nursing shirt or cami
a pack of mens A shirts that she can put under her regular shirt to help with public nursing (hides the belly)
    bra pads
    there is a starter list
edit. i second the sling idea….that really helps out a n ursing mom
and the hooter hider is also a bit too much for me…..that would be telling your friend you are ashamed of her and she needs to cover up

A Boppy pillow. It’s a pillow shaped like a horseshoe.

  11. Strawber says:

I can’t live without my nursing cover!! The name brand ones out there are Hooter Hiders or Bebe au Lait. I started making my own because I didn’t want to pay $40 for one. Here are some pictures of what I’m talking about. (Scroll down to the bottom!) http://www.cutiecovers.blogspot.com
I think every nursing mom needs one. It is so wonderful for nursing in public.

  12. niknat31 says:

Yes Boppy’s are great but, if she ever wants to go in public (and she will), bra pads are the best thing since sliced bread. Because there will be leakage..
Get her a couple boxes of disposable bra pads.
No one ever thinks of them.
Or a washable / reuse-able / Earth friendly set AND take her to lunch !

  13. daa says:

A nursing pillow, a nursing stool, breast pads & Lansinoh, a nice sling.

  14. mocoh80 says:

boppy pillows are the new thing out.
i got my best friend one. she loves it. ive heard from everyone they are great because the baby rests on it while they brest feed and it helps support the baby…
there are also diff covers u can get it. go to target.
    OR:
u could fill up a basket of stuff for the mom like nipple cream, bottle storage, lotion, tylenol, breast feeding can be painful.

  15. mistk_do says:

Hot water bladders that are soft when filled and easy to hold in your hands. Breast feeding pads for leakage, you can never have enough of them on hand. uncented natural body butter.

  16. Mrs. L says:

If she doesnt have one already ,you could get her a boppy, one of those pillows, or you could get her some nice pjs with holes made in them for breastfeeding..
