Maternal insticts will kick in from the moment that your child arrives, so I do not believe that the classes are neccessary. And the childbirthing classes can be useful to some women, i guess. I did the classes and it was more of an "excitement" of being around other new parents than it was a learning experience. After all, you know it's going to hurt, and the worst thing to do is fight the pain, it makes it worse.
