I need to take one Ultram and I am breastfeeding a 4 month old, is it safe for my daughter to still nurse?

Ultram has an active metabolite that is excreted in breast milk and has been reported to be present even 16 hours after dose is taken at a much smaller dose. The effects on the nursing infant is unknown at this time.
I probably would recommend taking an alternative pain medication depending on your diagnosis. Please speak with your OB about this and see what her recommendation would be.

Yes! Many medications are safe to take while breastfeeding, since only a minute amount is passed to the baby. Dr. Hale is an expert on the subject; here he mentions its safety while nursing.
