Is Is Ok To Switch Around On Baby Formula?

I’ve read online that all formulas are basicly the same and I’d like to stock up now if possible. We fall in that hairy bracket between making too much and too little to qualify for assistance and sales and coupons would help. I just wonder if it’s a bad idea. We have no way to know what formula we will use and people just kind of seem to go off of whatever they like…. Any idea? I don’t want to get blind sided by formula costs after our baby is born and breast feeding isn’t an option.

Don’t stock up. Start putting the money away now though.
Why isn’t breastfeeding an option? That’s so sad. Maybe if you let us know, we can help you find a solution. So often women are told they ‘can’t breastfeed’ by doctors that are not educated about breastfeeding at all
I would not buy a ton of different formulas. Your child could have allergies to milk & need to go onto soy formula, or formula for food allergies (God forbid) but you never know. My 1st baby took all kinds of formulas, soy, milk based, and every brand under the sun just fine. I have read that some babies get constipated from certain brands, and my 2nd baby couldn’t take Enfamil Gentlease, she kept spitting it up. Some formulas clump like the Enfamil A.R. because of the added rice startch they add, I couldn’t get that to mix up without having big clumps in it. Just wait until the baby is born, then start off with a store brand of formula. The Parent’s Choice formula sold at Wal*Mart is less than half the price of Enfamil & Similac, and it is supposed to have the same amount of vitamins as Enfamil & Similac.
HI
Lik e its already been siad, save the money and then try one type to see how your lo gets on with it. Why can you not bf? dont answer if its personal but we may be able to help as docs are not clued up on bf. I’ve been told a number of times that my baby is not getting enough, getting too much, feeding too often etc, luckily i followed my inistincts. Bf is really the best option if you can, there is only a tiny percent of women who can’t bf thier baby.
i hear it gives them belly acches.. try mixes both at once then go to the other so its a smooth switch
edit
i get similac and if you sign up w/ them they send you a 5 dollar coupon every month.. so maybe if once your low you can buy the already made formula and its 5.60 here at walmart so you pay like a buck..it doesnt last long but it something! do you qualify for wic at all?
ask your pediatrician!
some formulas have too much iron for newborns could cause newborn to vomit alot.
I would recommend waiting on purchasing the formula, because all babies are different, and there’s no telling which formula is going to work for your baby. You don’t want to wind up with a bunch of formula that you can’t use.
I understand wanting to be able to buy it while it’s on sale, but it might just end up costing more in the long run. I have three kids, can’t breastfeed, and have had to use three different formulas. My son had to have lactose free for three months, then he could use regular formula. My next child had to have soy. My third baby has to have the Good Start. With all the other brands she is miserable, gassy, fussy, spitting up, cranky, and constipated.
All formulas have to meet guidelines for nutrition, and all formulas are safe for babies. But they are not all the same. With my third baby, Good Start was the last type of formula we tried for her. None of the others worked, and we tried Similac, Enfamil, store brands, soy, Gentle, Nutrimigen, Alimentum, you name it, we tried it. They all affected her differently, but Good Start was the only one that she was comfortable on. Unfortunately, there’s no way to predict which brand is going to work for your baby.
Good luck!
i would save your money up in a special nappies/formula/whathaveyou account and use it when baby is born. you might stock up on normal formula and then have a baby that can’t drink that and needs soy or goats milk or something strange. also there are different ones for reflux etc and some brands just don’t agree with your babies stomach (i don’t knwo why you would think that they are all the same but they’re not… i’ve tasted them and some even taste different). i feel for you being in that dumb middle of the range income bracket… we are there and we seriously feel like we’re living from hand to mouth sometimes… my hubby works and we also run a small business to supplement our income and we are still feeling the pinch. so anyway… save that money up and when you have your baby and you know what sort of formula suits him/her stock up then. good luck.
