How Long Can I Store Dry Baby Formula?

Im wondering how long I can store an opened can of dry formula. See, Im still mostly EBF my baby, I do have to give her formula rarely. I dont see a point to opening a WHOLE can (I have several unused/unopened cans) for 1-5 formula feedings a month. The can says it can be stored in a cool dry place open for one month. Is there any way to prolong storage (IE Freezing?) Thanks.

I don’t know if freezing will prolong the life of opened formula. However, you may want to consider the “to go” packs that some of the manufacturers have available. They are single serving dry powder formula that you can use. They are more expensive, but probably not more expensive if you are throwing out unused formula.
I’m not sure about freezing it…ask your pediatrician. You might try the smaller cans of ready made formulas if your feedings are that rare. It’s more expensive but cheaper than a $25 can of formula you might have to throw away after using only 2 scoops!
It really depends on the brand. We use Emfamil Lipil. It comes in ready to use and powder so it’s different for both. The powder comes in a can and stores nicely. The liquid can be stored on the counter. Once it is opened, you have to use within one hour or throw out. Same once you make the powder- once you make it, yo umust use within one hour.
Just check the back of the lables. It should tell you how to store and use properly.
