How Can I Heat Baby Formula When Traveling?

We store our baby’s formula and refrigerate it premixed in the bottle. When baby needs a bottle, we warm a bottle in heated water in a kettle. If it isn’t suggested to feed a baby the formula if it is lower than room temp, what are ways I can warm it? Sometimes we aren’t going to family’s or friends’ house. We use Similac Advance powder and it is good for 1 hour after first feeding from the bottle. We carry the refrigerated bottles in the bag with the ice packs provided with the diaper and supply bag. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!

The easiest way would be not to premix it when traveling. Just put the powder in and keep bottles of water in teh car at room temperature to just add and mix in when baby is hungry. Or prefill with water and carry teh powder seperate to add.

Heres an easier way of doing the bottles. Just bring a gallon jug of water and some powdered formula with you. Just use room temp. water when you feed your baby. I fed my son this way all the time and it was a lot easier then having to heat the bottle all the time. One other thing I was just thinking about is that they do make bottle warmers that you can plug into your cigarette lighter in your car. I’m not sure how well they work.

I would mix the bottles as needed. I have a little container that you can premesure powder into to make it a little easier. Just have some room temp. spring water with you and that will be warm enough.
FYI I’ve never used one, but did some research on the car type bottle warmers that plug into your cigarette lighter, they received pretty bad reviews so I didn’t buy one.
Good luck and Have a great trip!

I bring bottles that already have powder in them with me. Then I bring a thermos of warm water and just add the water as the baby wants bottles. That way I dont have to find a place to warm the bottle and I don’t have to mess with measuring out formula powder cause I have already done it at home! Hope this helps!!!
    or…
you could get a car bottle warmer. It plugs into the ac outlet into your car and heats the bottles (be warned though, if you use drop ins this WON’T work because the heater has to be touching the formula directly!) I used one of these when I was using liquid formula but I just had to heat the bottle through 2 cycles. It worked fine as long as the baby wasn’t too hungry when I started because it does take a little while!!

They have these bottle warmer bags that plug right into your cigarette lighter to make it easy to heat bottles while traveling.I think walmart has them for like less than $10.

they have those car heated things where you can plug in, also I think they may have battery operated ones too , They take like 5 minutes to heat up. Now with my daughter who is 3 months, Since she was born we just put formula in this formula dispenser and fill bottles of water, The water is room temp and then you mix the formula in, You said you were using powder right? I would use the pre mixed stuff while at home and when your out just take fomula in these little formula dispenser and pre filled bottles. Works for us!

i believe they have electric portable bottle warmers at stores like target and babies r us. you can even plug them into your car’s cigarette lighter if you are on a road trip!

Since you use the podwer formula take bottled water do not put it in cooler or ice. wiat until a couple of minutes before feeding time then mix, if needed use less water or extra podwer to help fill baby faster. To help mix formula easier bring along a spoon (since formula will not be warmed in hot water).

I agree the way is to not premix it. They have these really cool containers that are divided into 3 compartments that you can premeasure powdered formula in. It is very convenient. That is what worked best for us. Good Luck.

Buy the powdered formula and don’t premix it with the water. Just fill the bottles with water and add the powder as needed. Sometimes baby’s will take this lukewarm alternative. If not you can buy a warmer that plugs into your ciggerette lighter in your car. Check out specality baby magazines like one step ahead. Hope this helps. Good luck!
