Does most formulas come by the case? Also how much formula does your newborn baby go through in about a week? So far I havent really paid much attention to the formula prices.

Formula can be really expensive. The one I use (Nestle Good Start) is about $12 a can. I receive WIC vouchers though, so I don’t have to pay for the formula. My six week old son goes through about 2 cans a week. I haven’t seen the powered version of formula sold in cases at the Wal-Mart where I live, they sell the pre-mixed in cases though.

It outrageous, but there are varying brands and costs.
I live in Canada. I started my daughter on the Nestle GoodStart with DHA/AHA. We used that for 3 months and switched because it didn’t agree with her digestive system. I switched her to the cheap Walmart (Parent’s Choice) brand, with all the same ingredients. It was half the cost and her digestive system was much happier.
Each week I was buying a case of liquid concentrate formula (12 cans) for $40-45. That’s the GoodStart. The powder is very comparable in price, but I found concentrate was easier to digest. The store brand was only $20-25 per case.
This is of course assuming your baby doesn’t have any special dietary needs… that would make it way more expensive. I would recommend buying the cheaper stuff. All formulas are FDA approved and have to fall within specific guidelines… they are just as safe as the the expensive stuff.

before weaning, she went through 2-3 cartons a week, each carton costing £8.
it started to gradually decrease, now at 12mos old, she is on 1 carton a week of follow on 6mos plus milk. the reason she still takes so much as she doesnt like the taste of cows milk, and she only sips at water and juice. formula is the only think she will actually take a big drink of.
however im moving her on to toddler milk which only comes in 500ml bottles, a pack of 4 costs £4, i expect her to go through 3-4 bottles a day as once opened it needs to be discarded in an hour.

well my son has a milk allergy, which is really common with babies till about 6 months, so i have to buy nutramigen by enfamil. it only comes in one size can, and its the small sized cans, not the bigger size you can get in other formulas. on can costs $25.99 and only lasts about 4 or 5 days so i usually buy6 at a time so i don’t have to go to the store every other day pretty much. its pretty expensive but i would rather have a happy baby than an upset fussy baby all day everyday.

We go through a large can about once a week, we use the generic and buy it when it’s on sale at $11.99 per can. I also get a discount because of where I work so it ends up being about $9.60 per week, or about $38.40 every month.
The generic is the same as the brand, if you use the generic it is much cheaper.

I am nursing. But have tried supplementing with formula. We buy Enfamil and it cost about $14 a can. But if you sign up on the website they send you samples and coupons.
