Does Baby Formula Really Go Bad After 24 Hours In The Refrigerator?

The Enfamil Canister states that you can make the formula in advance and place it in the refridgerator for 24 hours? Why would it go bad after 24 hours if it’s clean and the baby hasn’t drank from it? Any expierences with this?

I’m sure your baby would live if you gave her old formula, same as the mothers I see toting around already made bottles in the purses while cruising the mall. Not smart and not what you are supposed to do but the babies are fine. That said, there must be a reason they tell you not to do it and I personally dont need to find out. If it happened once where you made too much, dump it and dont make so much next time. Once I realized I put a new bottle in the fridge and one was already in there from the day before. I dumped them both :) Good luck!

Formula is kind of weird. I am pretty vigilant about pitching it.
I did accidentally leave a bottle in our stroller for about two days. It went bad. It did not go bad exactly like milk, however. It did not get thick, it turned sort of grayish and smelled to high heaven, but not until I opened the bottle. This experience made me even more vigilant about pitching it regularly.

bacteria grows in formula and that is why it is bad after it has been made.
It will make the child seriously ill so make shure you always follow the directions, Im even very surprised it said you could keep in the the fridge for 24 hours I alwas thought it was bad after and hour.

I used Isomil Advance and it says it’s good for up to 48hours in fridge. I think it’s true because after about 72 hours it starts to stick to the side of the plastic container I mix it in. And it turns a bit more “yellowed” and smells stronger.

powder formula isn;t completely sterile (imposible to make so) that is why it has a short shelf life. when prepared things start to grow the longer its prepared the more nastys grow. don;t use it. liquid concentrate can refridge for 48hrs. thats what i use

With baby food it’s really best to play it safe. So yes, I would say that it goes bad after 24 hours. You should always follow the directions.. It would be like drinking milk after the expiration date.. I wouldn’t do it.
Also, Formula isn’t packed with preservitives to keep it from spoiling like most other food products are.

Milk losses its goodness the longer its been in the fridge. I would only make one or two bottles at a time so there is little chance of it going to waste
