Can I Switch My Baby To Generic Formula?

As we all know, money is tight these days, and I wonder if it would hurt my 6 1/2 month old baby boy to switch him to like wal mart brand baby formula? Also – My son was born on March 25th, 2009. Technically he is 29 weeks old, but the doctors are going by the 25th of each month for his age… How does this work and which one is correct??? Thank you!
I honestly don’t see a problem switching your baby to a different brand of formula. While I wouldn’t recommend switching back and forth, a simple change won’t (shouldn’t) hurt him. At about 5-6 months of age, I switched my daughter to the Wal-Mart’s Parents Choice brand formula. She’s been fine.
On the age thing, both you and your doctor are corrent. Couting in months you would use the 25th as a marker, but if you are counting in weeks, you would use the day of the week he was born. It’s all the same thing. Your method is just more “precise” on the EXACT age. Again, nothing wrong with either. Honestly, if you were to tell me he was 29 weeks, I wouldn’t know exactly how old he was…lol. Most people just go by months….
your baby would probably do fine on a generic formula. all formula’s have to meet a certain standard. the only issue might be that it’s manufactured a little different and might cause tummy troubles, but that’s a little less likely at 6 1/2 months then if he was just a few weeks old.
as far as the age goes – i guess you are both correct technically, but most people stop using weeks for age within just a few months. if you are using weeks then you would go by the day of week that he was born (monday, tues, etc.). if you are counting in months then you go by the exact date that he was born which would be the 25th. i quit using weeks around 4 months i think. after that i would just say that he was a little over 4 months, or 4 1/2 months, or almost 5 months. he just turned a year old a few weeks ago, but i’m not going to say he 53 or 54 weeks old. most people would probably be confused by that.
I’d go by the 25th. Every 25th of each month, he is 1 month older then before. That is how we do our birthdays, ya know. We don’t count out 52 weeks every year for our age, so I wouldn’t do it for your son’s age.
It’s okay to get generic formula. My son has been on generic since he was born. It’s all the same thing. It’s regulated by the FDA and they have minimum requirements- nutrition wise, that all formula must meet.
There’s no problem at all if you plan to switch your baby into generic baby formula, as long as he will tolerate the generic baby formula and it has the all the nutrition your baby needs. With the age of your baby, if he was born on the 25th of March then he is on his 29th week now.
