The waking up every 2 hours and when you cannot find what is hurting them to make them feel better it brakes my heart

Trying to be good with everything despite the fact that you must take care of yourself more than ever.Also trying not to cry all the time.

When he appears to be in pain…his tummy gets upset and he has constipation problems…and there is nothing I can do to comfort him. There have actually been a few times that I have just say and cried with him. I had tried everything else!

24/7 care, tiredness, recovering from labour! My 1st son was admitted to special care baby unit and i had dangerously high blood pressure! Not seeing your baby for 9 hours after it’s born while dr’s try and get you and your baby stabilsed! Having to leave your baby in special care and not be able to cuddle him when you want to!
Having had 2 babies in special care and 2 full term babies, I realise both are exhausting but it is awful leaving the hospital without your baby and visiting them!
Be happy if you have a full term baby and find it all too much, just be glad you are not sick to your stomach with worry of what you will see they have done to your baby next in the hot room at special care!
I am not undermining the difficult job of having your first newborn, but if you and they are healthy thank god that tiredness and feeding and recovering from labour are your worries, and really enjoy!

So far the most challenging thing that I’ve found is waking up every couple hours during the night and early morning. It’s hard to try and stay awake while feeding him at those times. But it’s all totally worth it, I’m sure I’ll get a full nights sleep again….eventually.

Waking up every two or three hrs to change and feed. I remember I could fall asleep standing up. I had 3 babies in 3 yrs. I was always tired. You just don’t do child care you make meals,lots& lots of laundry,marketing,paying bills, cleaning the house and try to still have time for a husband who wakes up because the baby is crying and not being able to fall back to sleep. Plus did I mention I still held down a job too. I honestly don’t know how we managed,but now 40 plus yrs later when the “kids” are now in their 40′s and they are all married and healthy and happy with their own kids I can sit back and play grandma and spoil them rotten.

the most challenging is breastfeeding since it takes a lot of time. this means you have to make piorities for how to spend the rest of the time you have left. sometimes things get left out which you would normally used to do before giving birth. so time, time, time. time i realised passed by so fast espacially for newborn – feeding, changing nappy, bath, putting them to sleep, then the crying, and colic – happens all day.
but when they sleep they are wonderfull and when they grow there are nice memories of them.

I do not have a child yet, so props to all the mothers who’ve done an amazing job.
I’m going to say breastfeeding, and getting it right! I’m not fearful of it by any means, but think it is going to be the most work. Between 20-40 minutes (or more), feedings every 2-4 hours (if not more), making sure you are staying healthy for your child to thrive, getting the latch right, gaining enough weight etc.
Of course breastfeeding would be much easier if all nursing mothers got a full nights sleep, ha!

It’s not so much the newborn baby care, but the first day back to work. Today is my first day back, and I am absolutely miserable!!!! I brought my photo album of my son who’s almost 7 weeks old, but it just isn’t the same as holding him close. Today is going to be the longest day of my life!!!!!
